What Does the Company Have to Offer?

What Does the Company Have to Offer? Can a person be qualified to work at a LiveCareer Company? In the past, I have heard stories about the various challenges that face the company from one of their professionals. The jobs that are offered are typically entry level, and are filled with people who have minimal or no training. Some of the well known companies in this field are livecarefurniture.com, ironwoodwallcoverings.com, mewarthouse.com, and may people.com.In this article, I will address a few different issues that are important when it comes to the hiring process for a potential employee. In my opinion, some of the best companies will not be the ones that approach it the wrong way. Instead, I believe that the best companies will go the extra mile to make sure that you feel that you are considered and taken seriously. The attitude plays a large role in the hiring process. It should not be overlooked. A poorly dressed person will most likely struggle to fit in with the 'team'. A well dressed person will stand out, but not enough to take the position for themselves. Many employees who are hired at a LiveCareer Company tend to work on a team first and foremost. When the livecaregiver is asked to apply, they will often express their frustration with the company that they are working for. After all, it is not uncommon for a person to have been a company employee for years and then get asked to fill out an application that they feel is too demanding. In these cases, it is important to ensure that the requirements are minimal. As a word of advice, the word 'flexible' does not play into the job description. An example would be if the livecaregiver wants to bring their family member to work on a weekly basis. The company should never require this as a requirement, nor should it try to put restrictions on this type of activity. These types of restrictions can be dangerous, as they can limit the family member's abilities to perform tasks at work.It is important that the co mpany seems to take you seriously. They should treat you with respect, but still maintain a pleasant demeanor. If the company is rigid and does not seem to take your personality into consideration, then this may be a hint that they are not interested in hiring. In the end, I have had employees that felt like the company did not want them. The final piece of advice I would give to someone that is looking to take on a new livecareer opportunity is to realize that it is important to get to the bottom of what the company has to offer before you make any decisions about this. You want to be sure that the company is going to allow you to grow and develop to your fullest potential. In other words, is the company committed to a level of growth that allows you to do more than what is expected at your current position? In the end, I believe that it is possible to work at a LiveCareer Company if you make it so. It is important to take the time to look at all of the opportunities that are availab le to you before making any commitments.

How to Be the Ripest Candidate of a Great Bunch

How to Be the Ripest Candidate of a Great Bunch Youve been through  round after round of interviews.  Youve watched the  bung fruits be weeded out, and youve managed to hold on until the end. Youve been requested in for one final interview; the  feedback  thus far has been great, but you also know youre one of a few finalists vying for the same role. Ugh. Youve been hearing lately that its a candidate-driven market, that the world is your oyster, so you didnt think it was going to come to this. After all, youre perfect for the role and know your stuff inside out, right? Well yes, but the thing is, youre up against X, Y and Z who are also perfect for the role and also know their stuff. So, how can you smash the final stage  and make sure youre the freshest pick? Showcase your longterm ambition Its time to think big and long. Sure, you might be the perfect person for the job now, but how are we looking for one, two, three years down the track?  Losing employees is a huge cost to companies, as is hiring new replacements. It is in a companys best financial interests to have people stay with them for longer, so you must  make it your mission to sell yourself as a longterm investment. If youre speaking directly with your potential new line manager, you want them to have confidence that, if you are successful in bagging the role, all the time they spend with you, coaching, teaching and supporting you, wont be in vain. Asking questions about internal career growth and development opportunities will show the business youre in for the long haul, unlike your shortsighted competitors. Go above and beyond on the effort front This is where you want to surprise your interviewer with your commitment and dedication to scoring the job. It goes without saying youd dress to impress, but Im talking about thinking outside of the box. Is there a way you can create an example of the  value youd offer the business? If youre going for a marketing job, can you create a mini mock campaign, tailored to the position you want? If you are going for a research or analysis type of role, can you put together some stats to show them what youre capable of achieving? Putting in an extra hour or two of preparation might require a lot more time and effort than youd care to invest, but if it means you get your dream role, doesnt that make it worth it? Find some common ground Im not in any way suggesting you conduct creepy research into your interviewer / hiring managers personal life, but certainly, try to find some interesting things out about their interests or personality, whether you do it by glancing at their social profiles, or coming straight out and asking them. If youve met them a number of times, the likelihood is they believe youre a great fit skill-wise for the role why else would they waste their time with you? Its fair to assume they are now looking for what type of colleague youll make, and what youre like as a person, sizing you up against the others. Finding some non work-related talking points will allow you to connect on a more human level, and let them picture you as someone they get along with and could see themselves managing or working with. Arm yourself with proof At one stage or another, if youre successful, your new employer will want to conduct some reference checks. This will be part of the process whether you like it or not, and more often than not, will be done by HR to confirm youre  not a serial  psychopath  and have simply done all the things you said you have.  Think of recommendations as a valuable marketing tool, to convince your interviewer youre the one they need. Try to gather as much reference material as you can prior to your final conversation; form  testimonials to  employer  reviews and recommendations. Being able to talk about this, and provide evidence of if need be, will help fill your hiring manager that youre a safe choice; a proven success story. Be grateful and upfront Lets talk about the follow up email or note. Im a big fan. Youve just met or spoken with a very important decision maker. While you might have a very clear memory of how the conversation went and the points you got across, you cant be sure they have taken those same impressions away. Why? If theyre interviewing a couple of other people, asking them the same questions over and over, your answers are likely to get muddled up with theirs.  Thanking the person later for the time they spent with you is a really professional, polite thing to do, and also an opportunity to briefly recap the most important messages. If you are 100% sure you are the right person for this role, tell them leave nothing on the table. Personalise this message, and be upfront. After all, it might just be the one thing that pushes you over the finishing line first.

Was moving to NYC everything you thought it would be

Was moving to NYC everything you thought it would be Note: This post is the first post of the Ask a Career Girl Series.   I get questions and emails almost  daily from readers, friends and Twitter followers and decided it was time to start answering the questions  through posts.   The first question is actually from me to Jessica Girdwain, a friend of mine  who started her career out in New York City and is now back in Chicago.  -Nicole Was moving to NYC everything you thought it would be? By, Jessica Girdwain Yes-but I admit, I went prepared. Summer before senior year I spent three months interning in the editorial department at CosmoGIRL! magazine and living in the NYU dorms. So, by the time I made the move to Manhattan, I already knew the subway system, picked out a favorite brunch spot, and had several contacts. One month after graduation, I sold my car (which provided all the funds for my move and a small financial cushion), and hopped on a plane with two bags in tow, no apartment, and no job. (I did set up a 2-month sublet in Brooklyn-thanks Craigslist and two strangers!-so I was going somewhere after my plane landed in Newark). After arriving, I was mentally ready for a long, tedious job hunt. I wanted a magazine gig, a job where positions only open up when another editor leaves. It took me five months to get a regularly paying position and nearly five more months to land one with benefits. During that time, I was rejected from 11 entry-level editorial jobs. The good thing: Its a lot like that cliché about love. Once you find the perfect one (for me it was Prevention magazine), you realize why all the other ones didnt work out. Another challenge was finding a permanent apartment, no small task when you are young, unemployed, and broke. Leasing an apartment in Manhattan is akin to actually buying a place-you need to provide proof of employment, recent pay stubs, scanned bank statements, fabulous credit, sign it all in blood and offer up your first born. I paired up with a friend and fellow editor (in fashion) and heres what we learned: 1) Consider a broker. I have a friend who stumbled into her apartment on her own, but this is rare. Without a broker, you will spend weeks, months walking through crappy places listed on Craigslist. With a broker, you will walk through semi-crappy places with a semi-professional. Youll pay a hefty fee-about one months rent or 10 percent-but ours found us a place in two days. 2) Unless you make the equivalent of 40 times the monthly rent, you will need a guarantor, otherwise known as your parents. At the time we signed our lease, neither of us were employed, but the management company still accepted our application, thanks to my roommates father. 3) The apartment will probably be tiny. Ours was 1.5 bedrooms, 350 square feet, had natural light in one room only, and we spent a lot of time in our kitchen/living room/foyer/home office. If that doesnt give you an accurate picture, it was seven of my feet (front to back) from couch to fridge. I wear a size 8. 4) And expensive. For the above, we paid $1849 (plus a 3-month rent security deposit). That was back in 2006. When they went to release the place, it leapt to $2100. Plus, people tend to look at me in shock when I told them how little it cost us. A friend who has a beautiful doorman 1-bedroom apartment in the Tribeca neighborhood has erected a wall to transform it into 2 (this is common). Its a touch over $3300. 5) Think about Brooklyn, Queens, Hoboken NJ, other areas that can still be expensive, but provide more space if you dont mind a train ride in. So, it was hard, stressful, blah blah blah-but well worth it. Living in NYC is amazing, especially Central Park, the restaurants, nightlife, people, and general energy of the place. It was the best thing Ive ever done for my career and me personally. I came back to Chicago to be closer to family, friends, and live in an apartment with windows. But I cant deny that I dont think about the city everyday.

Benefits to flexible hours for todays workforce - Sterling Career Concepts

Benefits to flexible hours for todays workforce Benefits to flexible hours for todays workforce Why does the current workforce demand flexible hours?   What are the benefits to employers granting it? I came across an infographic  from McGowan Transcriptions  (see below) that I found interesting, and while it features UK-related statistics on the benefits to flexible hours, the concepts are the same globally. A whopping 82% of the UK workforce said that if they are allowed to have flexible working hours, their loyalty towards their employers would improve drastically. What does the current generation of the workforce see as the benefits to flexible hours? One of the prime reasons for flexibility is for employees to balance their work-life with their personal life including but not limited to school schedule of their children, traffic congestions during rush hour, and public transport schedules. Women joined the workforce in the early 1900s in very limited numbers but we are living in an era where both sexes equally contribute to the workforce and also share household responsibilities equally. By offering flexible working hours and the ability to work from home, one or both partners can give more time to their personal time than wasting it wasted stuck in traffic daily. It appears to be a win-win for employees so far right. Wait, it is also quite beneficial for employers to provide their team with a virtual workspace over conventional office space. It would bring office expenses down big time as either smaller or no office space would be needed. Since employees would be able to work just as effectively from home, they would be in higher spirits towards considering the flexibility. Another added advantage for employers is that they would be able to hire new talent from across the globe and also enjoy the round-the-clock advantage. For instance, if a US-based business hires someone in India, they would be able to assign a task at the end of the day in the US, which would be the start of business hours in India. The Indian team member will be able to finish the assigned work and deliver it even before his manager in the US wakes up. Take a look at the infographic below for more statistics on the subject

How to Effectively Destress at Work - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

How to Effectively Destress at Work Stress can take its toll on a person’s professional performance and can eat away at your daily mood, which can impact your personal life. Fortunately, there are simple ways to banish pressure and strain in your career. Find out how to effectively de-stress at work. Prioritise Tasks The best way to banish stress is to organise your task list. Prioritising projects by importance will help you identify what you need to do and the time you have available to do it. If the tasks are unachievable in the timeframe, you can then consider asking for help, or you can delegate jobs to others to take some of the pressure off your working day. Take a Five-Minute Break When the pressure gets too much at work, it can sometimes be beneficial just to take a step back and enjoy a five-minute break. Do something light-hearted when taking five, which will allow you to have a little fun amidst the chaos. For example, you could browse through Instagram, catch up with the Unibet football blog for the latest news, or doodle on a pad to increase your creativity while de-stressing. Change Your Attitude Towards Health A hectic career can often result in people side-lining their health, as they are more likely to put exercise off for another day or grab something quick and easy to eat at their desks. Yet, poor health can lead to an unhealthy body, which can make you feel lethargic, depressed and, consequently, more stressed. Start putting your health first to improve your mood and health. For example, go to the gym on your lunch hour, take a walk around the block on your break, and take the stairs over a lift. Also, learn to say no to those unhealthy snacks that make their way around the office, and stock up on healthier options to enjoy at your desk. You’ll be glad you did. Focus on Breathing Sometimes it’s beneficial to cut yourself from all distractions to simply focus on breathing for a few minutes. Deep breathing can help to relax your mind and body, which can help keep stress at bay. Aim to perform deep breathing techniques for a few minutes at a time, as little as ten breaths could help you relax. Step Away from the Screen Improve your mood and eyesight by stepping away from the screen. It is often helpful to take a step back from the computer, which can often prevent a headache from developing. If you don’t have much time in the working day, swap the device for the traditional pen and paper to write out your task list or jot down ideas. Listen to Mood-Boosting Music It’s amazing how much music can change your mood. Avoid stress by simply listening to mood-boosting music. All you need to do is create a fun playlist in your spare time and put on your headphones at work. Play songs to counteract your mood. For example, if you are dealing with anger at work, play some calming songs to relax your mind and body. If you feel tired, play some fast tempo tunes to lift you up and energise your body.
